Employee Spotlight Q & A:

Ashley: If you were to create a company tradition, what would it be and why?

Brian: I’ve always love when spaces are created for connection. I think annual offsites or business retreats would be an awesome opportunity for us to strategize AND socialize. I think getting away from the usual work environment can promote open-mindedness, creativity, and innovation. I also think smaller versions of this are beneficial. Weekly all-hands or standups usually bring teams together.

A: If you could have a lunch date with any historical figure, who would it be with and what would you talk about?

B: I think I would choose to have lunch with someone like Terrence Mckenna. He’s an ethnobotanist and philosopher whose work has pushed our ideas and understanding of consciousness. I would probably try to talk as little as possible and ask some crazy questions.

A: What's the most unexpected or unique hobby you have outside of work, and how does it contribute to your personal growth?

B: I’ve enjoyed painting over the last few years. Especially skateboard decks. I made the one behind me for my girlfriend. It reads “vivir como un mono” which translates to "live like a monkey" in Spanish. Having a creative outlet has been super helpful for me. It helps me stay creative and self-expression.

A: What type of recognition and appreciation do you value most?

B: Quality time with the people I love and enjoy being around means the most to me. In today's fast-paced world where everything vies for our attention, I think dedicating genuine, uninterrupted time to connect with others is incredibly important. For me, recognition manifests in the form of engaging in meaningful conversations and actively listening to others. I also find that my social battery is best recharged through deep conversations rather than surface-level interactions.

A: What is the coolest or most unusual fact you know?

B: This is definitely not the coolest or most unusual fact I know, but sloths sleep something like 15 to 18 hours a day. I just think that's hilarious lol.

A: What would your superpowers be and why did you choose them?

B: Telepathy because it’s real!  Communication definitely extends beyond words. There are various forms of non-verbal communication. Like body language and energy levels.

A: If you didn’t have to work, what would you do with your time?

B: Hmm maybe I would write a book or story. I have a few ideas that I would love to work more on. I think writing historical fiction would be cool, but also maybe non-fiction. My aim would be to provide readers with an opportunity to learn and explore their own beliefs by presenting captivating stories that motivate, inspire, and spark exploration.

A: If you were to describe your work style as a type of music, what genre would it be and why?

B: I would have to say rap because I try to be as authentic as possible. I grew up listening to rap and hip hop a lot. It can have the spirit of rebellion, while also dropping knowledge. It motivates me to challenge societal norms and embrace the energy and passion needed to make a meaningful impact in both my personal and professional life.

A: Can you share a memorable moment when you went above and beyond for a colleague or customer?

B: One memorable moment that stands out is when we manually surfaced observations, insights, and recommendations during Peoplelogic’s initial customer report iterations with our CEO, Matt and Data Scientist, Filipe. We had almost no process in place at that time, and we did a ton of manual work for very little reward. We tried our best to put together insights from a huge amount of unorganized data. We knew it wasn’t going to be great, but we were hoping to really set a foundation for reporting moving forward. I like to think we did.

A: If you could switch jobs with anyone in the company for a day, who would it be and why?

B: If it was only one day, I’d probably switch with Matt our CEO. It would probably be one of the craziest days, but I would learn a lot and would love to actually know what it’s like to run a company. I want to be the boss for a day!

A: If you could have a mentorship relationship with any industry leader, who would it be and why?

B: It would be a tough choice between Phil Knight from Nike and Yvon Chouinard from Patagonia. I just read the book “Shoe Dog” and really loved it. The story of Nike is so crazy, it’s almost hard to believe.  I’ve also always looked up to Yvon Chouinard and how he started his company. Both were visionaries who worked super hard to achieve their dreams. Nothings more inspiring than that!
